LaLutte

Who is La lutte?

I’m La Lutte, or Lucy, the face behind La Lutte Lingerie based in Perth, Western Australia.

Why La Lutte?

Well my family have always called me La Lutte, or just Lutte for as long as I can remember. Its a french word that translates to the fight or struggle and when setting up it seemed appropriate, given the struggles we face trying to find a good fitting bra!

I’ve been a lingerie lover all my adult life, I love all the laces and tulles, the satins and silks, I love how it looks and more importantly how it makes you feel. Unfortunately, the beautiful delicate bras I loved to wear as a teen no longer came in the size I’d become. If I wanted something remotely comfortable it didn’t look good, and if it looked good, it definitely didn’t fit.

I’ve been sewing for over 40 years and about 7 years ago I started looking at the possibility of making a bra myself. How hard can it really be?

Well, let me tell you, bra making is a rabbit hole and I fell right into it! I read everything I could, and took all the classes I could find, finally I was ready to make my first bra. Unfortunately finding good quality fabrics was hard, honestly much harder than the actual construction. It turns out you can’t just go to your local fabric shop, the same fabrics had different names, different fabrics were called the same thing, and the quality varied wildly. I found that to get what I wanted I really had to go international, but the wait for shipping was so long!

I’m hoping that here at La Lutte we have done that hardest part for you, we have sourced some of the best lingerie fabrics from all over the world and we have a beautiful curated collection of matching elastics to help you complete the look. We have everything you need, whether it’s to get your started on your bra making journey or if your already well and truly obsessed.

The bra making community has exploded over the last few years and the internet is full or really amazing sewists sharing their knowledge. I’ve written a few posts to help you get started, and I’ll be adding more as I go, but if you can’t find the information you need please let me know, I’m happy to help or point you in the right direction.

So from one home sewist to another, trust me this is absolutely achievable, with the right products and some good advice your shop bought bras will be a thing of the past.
